Purpose
Our program is designed to meet the individual needs of infant through preschool ages as they embark on their learning journey. As Mr. Rogers said “Play is the work of children.” At Smart Shenanigans, our goal is to make learning fun and meaningful for your child. Our small class size of only 2 to 3 students per teacher and individualized instruction sets our program apart because your child will receive personal and meaningful guidance alongside our certified instructors.
We also have certified tutors available to work with students Elementary and above.
Curriculum outline
Language & Literacy
Hands-on activities, music, and early literacy through play-based language development. Focus on listening and retelling to naturally develop phonemic awareness to later build words and sentences once in Kindergarten.
Readiness & Writing
Through music, movement, and multisensory manipulatives children will touch on all the core readiness skills including crayon grip, letter and number recognition, and letter formation.
Focus on letters in your child’s name to foster writing their name independently.
Numbers & Math
Through the use of manipulatives and real objects, children explore their own ideas while learning counting, comparisons, spatial awareness, patterning, sequencing, matching, sorting and problem-solving.
Physical Development
Use of fingerplays, singing, dancing, coloring, and tracing letters and numbers, we will build fine and gross motor skills needed for success in kindergarten. Focus on attaching meaning to visual information.
Social-Emotional Learning
Our number one priority is that our children feel safe and loved in the classroom. We will share activities and literature focused on self-regulation of emotions and strong sense of self. We will foster encouragement and development of empathy through relationships with peers and loved ones.
Science & Social Studies (enrichment)
We will spark imagination through exploration of healthy habits, community, plants and animals, as well as how we can better love our world and be good citizens.
Our program is endorsed by Peter Giroux, OT for Madison County Schools. Peter also serves as consultant in curriculum planning and resources.
